Dr Daniel Mealey
MBBS, FRACGP
Dr Daniel Mealey is a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners who brings a broad and distinctive background across general practice, emergency medicine, military medicine, and advocacy. He completed his MBBS at the University of Melbourne after first earning a Bachelor of Biomedical Science, and was supported through medical school by an Australian Army medical scholarship.
During his military service, Dr Mealey deployed to Afghanistan, where he provided medical and emergency support within a complex multinational operational environment. His service in Kabul included support to more than 3,500 NATO personnel, contribution to the establishment of the US Air Force Base Hospital at Kabul Airport, and was recognised with the United States Army Achievement Medal.
Alongside his clinical work, Dr Mealey was an active and public campaigner for the Royal Commission into Veteran Suicide, undertaking sustained medico-legal and public advocacy from 2016 to 2021.
Dr Mealey is a firm believer in upholding compassion in every consultation and in helping patients find meaningful pathways to health, particularly those who have been overlooked or who fall between systemic cracks. He is committed to thoughtful, person-centred care that recognises the dignity, complexity, and real-life circumstances of every patient.
Before medicine, Daniel also enjoyed a rich and varied life experience, including working as a personal trainer to a prince in Saudi Arabia, serving as a lifeguard and supervisor on Disney’s private island in the Bahamas, and hiking extensively through the Canadian Rockies. These experiences helped shape the grounded, adaptable, and people-focused approach he brings to his work today.
